| | | | Announcement | We are pleased to invite you to the 4th conference on the Ecology of Soil Microorganisms to be held in Prague from 19 to 23 June 2022. This will be the fourth conference of the series of triennial symposia on this topic, last organized in Helsinky in 2018. The conferences were attended by more than 400 participants from all over the world.
The conference is planned as an interdisciplinary platform that should offer as much interaction among various subjects within microbial ecology as possible. This includes questions addressing individual microbes, microbial communities as well as their interactions with the environment and other soil biota. We aim to link the current molecular “omics” methods such as metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics with approaches based on soil chemical and biochemical analyses, the exploration of soil fauna and plant ecology. The other important goal of the conference is a wide scope covering the ecology of all microbes: bacteria and fungi as well as archaea and protozoa. Our aim is to bring experts from all these disciplines to a meeting where all can benefit from interactions and to promote in this way the research in the field of soil ecology.

| | | | Presentation Format Details | Oral presentations
Invited talks are scheduled for 22 minutes + 3 minutes for questions and contributed talks for 12 minutes + 3 minutes for questions. Brief talks will take 5 minutes with no immediate discussion (but there will be an opportunity to discuss with the authors at their posters). Presentations should be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint-compatible format. The authors are responsible for checking the functionality of their presentations. The presenters’ computer will have an Internet access but we strongly recommend saving any web pages in the presentation offline. Speakers’ ready corner will be available to all speakers from the beginning of registration until the end of the day’s program. The presentations should be submitted at latest one day before they are scheduled to the organizers in the Speakers’ ready corner.
Poster presentations
All posters will be displayed on the day of their poster session and should be hanged as soon as possible in the morning and removed after the poster session. Poster dimensions should not exceed 90 cm (width) x 150 cm (height).

The meeting will take place in TOP HOTEL**** Conference Centre, Prague, Blazimska 1781/4, Prague 4. The venue is accessible by local transport – 10 minutes ride by bus from the underground station “Chodov”.
| | | | Registration and Payment | The conference is planned as an on-site event. The registration fee covers the access to the conference in the TOP HOTEL Conference Centre, Prague, conference materials (programme and book of abstracts), lunches, refreshments during coffee breaks and conference dinner.
In case of unfavorable COVID-19 pandemic situation, the conference will be switched to semi-virtual or virtual mode. In this case, the appropriate reduction of the registration fee will be applied.
Registration fees:
Early bird (until April 15, 2022): Regular - 15400 CZK (approx. 590 EUR), Student - 12800 CZK (approx. 490 EUR)
Standard (March 16 – June 5, 2022): Regular - 18000 CZK (approx. 729 EUR), Student - 15400 CZK (approx. 622 EUR)
Late (June 6, 2022 – on site): Regular - 20000 CZK (approx. 808 EUR), Student - 17400 CZK (approx. 703 EUR)
Proceed to registration fee payment ONLY after registration.
The prefered method of payment is by credit card in Czech Crowns. The payment system uses the most secure (3D-secure) on-line system currently available provided by GlobalPayments / Ceska sporitelna a.s. (ERSTE group) and is accesible after your registration via login with your unique registration number and personal password. Since the actual exchange rate may change during the year, the conference fee was calculated using the rate 1 EUR ≈ 26 CZK.

Cancellation and refund:
Please note that your registration is valid only after receiving your payment (other possibilities are negotiable directly with organizers). Cancellations are only accepted until March 15, 2022 and have to be made in writing. An administrative fee of CZK 2100 ( EUR 80.00 approx.) will be deducted from the payments. In case of change to virtual and/or semi-virtual mode of the meeting, a difference between the paid fee and fee of the virtual attendance will be refunded.

| | | | FEMS Meeting Attendance Support for Young Scientists | This meeting is selected by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) to offer grants for congress participation for Early Career Researchers*.
Eligibility
To apply for this grant, you would need to meet following requirements:
• be a member of a FEMS Member Society* or be recommended by such a member
• be an Early Career Scientist**
• be an Active Microbiologist
• be presenting author at the meeting (oral or poster)
*Find out if your society is a FEMS Member at https://fems-microbiology.org/member-societies/
**These are active microbiologists who obtained the highest academic degree - Bachelor, Master or PhD - less than five years prior to the application deadline date, or are a Master or PhD student.
Application process
Please note that the deadline for FEMS Meeting Attendance Support application is March 15, 12:00 CET. To apply, please
• register to the conference and submit you abstract via ‘REGISTER ONLINE’ form above (include a note that you apply for FEMS Meeting Attendance Support to the ‘Message to organizers’ field)
• send a completed ECS Meeting Grant Application Form to info @ soilmicrobes . org
Applicants will be selected for FEMS Meeting Attendance Support based on the scientific quality of their abstracts. The support will be provided as a free registration to the conference (worth 490 EUR/590 EUR).

To promote the interaction among soil microbial ecologists, there will be no parallel sessions. Please note that the number of oral presentation slots will be limited.
Standard talk – 15 min including discussion
Brief talk – 5 min without discussion. Presenter of a brief talk can also bring a poster with the same title.
Posters. Two poster sessions are planned during the conference. Please note that the brief talk option includes the opportunity to bring a poster with the same title.
Abstract should not be longer than 2500 characters including spaces. After submission, abstracts can be edited online after logging in using presenters User ID. Abstracts will be open for editing until April 30, 2022. Please note that abstract book will be available for conference participants in both printed and pdf form.
